Do You Know What’s In Your Candle?
Most people we come across actually do not know what a candle is made out of ? At The Shape Theory we believe that if you eat healthy you should breath healthy too !!
Most candles you purchase will be made with paraffin wax (a petroleum by-product).There are no strict governing laws on how candles are manufactured so its very difficult to know what your actually burning, but there are high changes that it is made from paraffin wax.
We have laid out all the reasons below of why to choose soy wax candles over paraffin wax candles.
What is Soy Wax ?
Soy wax is a natural and effective alternative to paraffin wax. It is a vegetable wax derived from soybean oil. The process is simple, after harvesting, soybeans are cleaned, cracked, de-hulled and rolled into flakes. The oil is exacted from the flakes and then hydrogenated. The hydrogenation process converts a portion of the fatty acids in the oil from unsaturated to saturated. Hydrogenation dramatically alters the melting point of the oil, allowing soy candles to burn longer.
Benefits of using Soy Wax in candles
Soy wax is a natural and renewable resource. The wax is biodegradable and easily cleaned with soap and water. Soy wax candles have a lower melting point than paraffin wax candles. Therefore, soy candles burn slower and longer than paraffin candles. Soy wax candles have no toxins, carcinogens or pollutants which means it's less likely to trigger allergies and No petrol-carbon soot like you get from petroleum-based paraffin candles.
This is the strongest point of a quality soy wax candle. With soy wax being natural, it does not contain toxins that are carcinogenic! Paraffin wax, on the other hand contains toxins such as toluene and benzene, which are known carcinogens!
It has been scientifically proven that a candle flame does not burn hot enough to destroy these ingredients before they are passed into the air, which makes paraffin candles air pollutants or harmful to the quality of the air in your home.
100% Natural & Eco-Friendly
Soy wax is 100% biodegradable while paraffin wax is not. With soy wax being made from soya beans, it is a natural, sustainable and a renewable resource. On the other hand paraffin wax is derived from petroleum which is fossil fuel, a non-renewable resource.
90% Less Soot
Soot is the solid particle that results from incomplete combustion of carbon-containing fuels, primarily petroleum-based fuels. This is called petro-carbon soot which is not found in soy wax. Soy wax is completely petro-carbon soot free.
Due to the fact that soy wax has a lower melt point, it has been found that on average they burn about 30% longer than a comparative paraffin candle.
